Police Anticipate Potential of KKB Terror Disrupt XX PON in Papua

Jakarta – XX PON will be held in 4 regions in Papua on 2-15 October 2021. The National Police has identified the potential for terror from armed criminal groups (KKB) to disrupt the implementation of XX Papua PON.

“We have identified various things that might arise, one of which is interference from the KKB. It has been identified,” said Karo Penmas of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Brigadier General Rusdi Hartono at the National Police Headquarters, Thursday (16/9/2021).

Rusdi explained that the National Police and the TNI had prepared security for the XX Papua PON. This is done in order to prevent interference from the KKB.

“In the context of securing the XX PON in Papua, the National Police together with the TNI and other agencies have prepared a security plan for this activity. And of course the Police, TNI and other agencies have prepared steps to prevent the disturbance caused by the KKB,” he explained.

Furthermore, Rusdi explained that the Papuan Police held a regional operation focused on securing the XX PON. He hopes PON can run smoothly and safely.

“There, for security purposes, the Papuan Police held a regional operation, which of course focused on security rather than all activities or series related to PON, whether it was securing people, goods, locations, or activities. It’s all secured. I hope it goes well,” said Rusdi.

“Of course we hope that all XX PONs in Papua can run safely and peacefully. Please pray,” he added.

Previously, the National Police deployed 1,600 additional personnel to help secure the XX National Sports Week (PON) in Papua. They will be dispatched to Papua in 2 days.

“BKO (under operational control) 16 SSK (company equivalent unit) next week ahead of the implementation (PON),” said Asops Chief of Police Inspector General Imam Sugianto when asked for confirmation, Thursday (9/9).

Imam said they would secure the 4 areas where the PON will be held. Namely Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Mimika Regency, and Merauke Regency.

“The PON security operation on September 18, they departed in 4 areas that held the PON,” he said.

Meanwhile, Imam confirmed that the Special Detachment (Densus) 88 of the National Police Anti-terror was involved in securing the 2021 PON XX Papua. He said that all elements of the police were involved.

“All elements of the police are involved,” added Imam.
