National Police Chief Orders All Regional Police to Respond to Citizens’ Aspirations During President’s Visit

JAKARTA – The National Police Chief General of Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo has instructed all regional police officers not to be reactive in responding to the delivery of public aspirations to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) during a working visit (kunker).

This is stated in the telegram number STR 862/IX/PAM.III/2021 as of September 15, 2021. “First, that every security office security is carried out humanely and not really reactive,” said the Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Pol Argo Yuwono in a press conference at the Police Public Relations Building, South Jakarta, Wednesday (15/9/2021) night.

According to Argo, as long as the residents who express their aspirations do not disturb public order, then the next thing is allowed. In addition, this matter also refers to freedom of expression in public in Law (UU) No. 9 of 1998.

Argo said that this instruction was related to Jokowi’s work visit to Lampung on September 2, 2021, in Blitar on September 7, 2021 and at the UNS Complex on September 13, 2021. The reason is, there are some people and students who unfurl banners or posters containing aspirations.

“If there is a community group that conveys their aspirations, it can be well communicated that the act of aspiration should not disturb public order. We convey it to the group, we manage and control it so that everything goes well and smoothly,” concluded Argo.
